The National Library of Colombia has partnered with Historypin to launch Comparte tu Rollo, a community memory component of their national program increasing technology use through public libraries throughout the country. The program was funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and will be carried out in 1,000 public libraries, supported by a national network of 29 tutors and support staff at the National Library. Comparte tu Rollo was officially launched at the National Congress of Public Libraries in Bogota on October 4th, 2016. By the launch, there had already been over 3,000 photographs and stories contributed from all corners of the country. The National Library of Colombia is doing ground-breaking work to measure the social impact of this project in the communities participating. You can see the project at comparteturollo.gov.co (Spanish), read about the methodology for libraries (Spanish), and read their paper about social capital through libraries (English).
We’ve included some news coverage and photos from the launch event below. For more information about this project, please contact Jon Voss, Strategic Partnerships Director at Historypin.
