3,500 unseen historic pub photos released on Historypin

We’ve collaborated with the National Brewery Heritage Trust to add 3,500 never-before-seen photographs to Historypin. The collection contains historical photos of over 1,000 pubs across England. Created by the Charrington Brewery as a record of all pubs they owned and saved from destruction 25 years ago, the photos are now mapped and accessible on Historypin where landlords, local people and historic pub lovers can continue to add stories, photographs and other materials and memories.

Explore the collection and find your local pub.

We’ve also taken to the road, getting in touch with current pub landlords to create community histories of individual pubs in the collection. We’ve spoken with former landlords, bar staff, pub historians, old regulars and new faces. We’ve heard tales of secret passageways, archaeological finds and the important difference between the saloon and the public bar. People have contributed their own photos to create a collaborative archive of their local watering hole.
